Max Asterlin
My family has called Sharon home for the past 12 years. My wife and I feel blessed to live in such a welcoming and diverse town. Our son and daughter both attend East Elementary School. I’m running for the School Committee because I want to give back to this wonderful community that has given my family so much.
A little about me: I’m a first generation American. I am a mechanical and aerospace engineer and am currently a Partner at Fairmont Consulting Group. I love sitting down with people, listening to all sides, and then making balanced and data driven decisions. To me, open conversations based on facts pave the way for cooperative problem solving and smart solutions.
What I Stand For:
Excellence. Sharon’s schools can be among the top 5 again! Let’s focus our resources on helping every student thrive academically. Several years ago I analyzed our school’s performance in MCAS scores and was troubled to find a continuous negative trend for most student groups in Sharon. As simply a community member, it was difficult to enable change or drive a conversation. As a School Committee member, I can have a more powerful voice in this discussion.
Opportunity. Kids deserve the chance to explore their passions and try new things. I’ll push for diverse classes at all levels, plus access to sports and extracurricular activities that spark their interests. As a student, I had the incredible experience to participate in a wide range of activities from theater, chess club, ski club, to being a three season athlete in high school. I recognize now, that these experiences, even if I wasn’t the best at them, enabled me to connect with people, think differently, and be more successful in life. These experiences helped give me the skills and confidence to build successful academic clubs in college, start and run my own business, and help me achieve Partner in my current company.
Accountability. It is critical that all leaders of our school system, including the School Committee, are accountable to the community. I’ll advocate for clear deadlines and improvement objectives from our school administration as well as promote transparency into our budgeting activities. I understand the critical importance of accountability; at Fairmont Consulting Group, we employee over 25 professionals, and I appreciate the responsibility I have to those individuals.
I’m excited to connect with you during this campaign! With your support, we can make Sharon’s schools even stronger for our kids and our community. Feel free to reach out—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
